A 16-year-old student of Nkwadum D/A Junior High School in the Akontombra District of the Western North Region has died following a violent confrontation with a fellow student over an alleged boyfriend.
The deceased, identified as Akua Kumah, a JHS 3 student, reportedly sustained a fatal stab wound during a fight with a 15-year-old JHS 2 female student, Francisca Hayford. The incident is said to have occurred on Monday while the two students were returning home from school.
According to information gathered, a misunderstanding between the two teenagers, allegedly linked to a romantic relationship, escalated into a physical altercation, during which Akua Kumah was stabbed.
The Assemblyman for the Nkwadum Electoral Area, Isaac Etsie, confirmed the incident, stating that he was informed of the fight later that evening.
“I was told that the two students got into a fight while returning from school, and during the confrontation, the 15-year-old stabbed the 16-year-old,” he said.
Akua Kumah was rushed to the Sefwi Nsawora Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. A Physician Assistant at the facility, Charles Kwabena Amoako, confirmed that the victim bled to death from the injury.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Francisca Hayford, is currently in police custody at Sefwi-Akontombra, assisting with investigations as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragic event has left residents of Nkwadum shocked and grieving, renewing concerns about student safety and conflict resolution among schoolchildren.
