Mobile money transactions in Ghana rose sharply to GH¢518.4 billion in December 2025, marking the highest monthly value recorded for the year, according to the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data.

The strong performance reflects increased consumer spending during the festive season, alongside the continued expansion and acceptance of digital payment platforms across the country.

Transaction volumes also increased significantly, reaching 982 million transactions in December, up from 892 million in November, indicating both higher usage and broader adoption of mobile money services.

The number of active mobile money accounts climbed to 26.7 million, compared to 25.5 million in the previous month. Meanwhile, registered accounts rose to 80.5 million, highlighting sustained progress in financial inclusion.

The mobile money ecosystem continued to grow, with 491,000 active agents recorded nationwide by the end of December, strengthening access to financial services, particularly at the community level.

Balances held in mobile money wallets reached GH¢39.6 billion, the highest level in 2025, suggesting increased confidence in mobile wallets as a reliable store of value and improved liquidity within the digital payments system.

Interoperable mobile money transactions also saw notable growth, with transaction values rising to GH¢5.8 billion in December, up from GH¢4.9 billion in November, driven largely by increased cross-network transfers during the holiday period.

Overall, the data underscores the growing dominance of mobile money in Ghana’s financial landscape and its central role in driving digital payments and financial inclusion.
