The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of seven individuals in connection with a highway robbery incident involving a member of the Council of State.
According to CID officials, the suspects were apprehended following a coordinated operation that traced their involvement in the attack. The robbery, which occurred earlier this month, targeted the convoy of the Council of State member, resulting in the theft of valuables and disruption of traffic along the affected route.
Investigators revealed that intelligence-led efforts and surveillance were key to tracking down the suspects. The arrests were made at different locations, with police recovering items believed to be linked to the robbery.
The CID has assured the public that the suspects will face prosecution, emphasizing that the operation reflects the Service’s commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring the safety of citizens on Ghana’s highways.
Police further urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that highway robberies pose a serious threat to national security and economic activity.
The Council of State member involved in the incident has since been provided with enhanced security measures, while investigations continue to identify additional accomplices.
