A tragic incident occurred at Ada Kesseh in the Ada East District on Tuesday afternoon when a young man, believed to be in his 20s, lost his life after falling into a well while attempting to fetch water for a bath. Eyewitnesses reported that the cement slab covering the well gave way, causing the victim to lose his balance and fall inside.

Rescue efforts took nearly an hour before the body was retrieved, but the young man could not be saved. The incident has left residents in shock, with many describing the scene as deeply distressing.

Community members have raised concerns about the safety of uncovered and poorly secured wells, stressing that such hazards continue to pose risks in rural and peri-urban areas. They blamed the accident on negligence in maintaining the well’s structure and called for urgent action to prevent similar tragedies.

Local authorities have been urged to step up public safety measures, including inspections and reinforcement of wells across the district. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unsafe water sources and the need for stronger community awareness and infrastructure safeguards
