U.S. Military Aircraft Lands in Ghana for Strategic Engagement

A United States military aircraft touched down in Ghana this week as part of a strategic study tour by the U.S. Air War College (AWC). The delegation, led by Colonel Amanda Watkin, is engaging with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to strengthen defense cooperation and review regional security challenges.

The team, made up of 10 senior students from the AWC, was officially received by Air Vice Marshal Joshua Mensah-Larkai, Chief of Staff at GAF Headquarters. Their arrival underscores the importance of Ghana as a strategic partner in West Africa, particularly in peacekeeping and counter-terrorism operations.

During the visit, Ghanaian officials briefed the U.S. delegation on border security, counter-terrorism measures, and regional stability efforts. The engagement forms part of the Air War College’s international curriculum, designed to expose officers to critical global security issues and foster collaboration with allied nations.

The landing of the U.S. aircraft highlights ongoing military cooperation between Ghana and the United States, reinforcing Ghana’s defense modernization agenda. With plans to acquire new helicopters and aircraft in 2026, the visit signals continued international support for Ghana’s efforts to enhance its airlift, patrol, and security capabilities.
