Fuel Price Increase Amid Global Oil Surge

Accra, March 16, 2026 — Ghanaians woke up to sharp increases in fuel prices today, as the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced new adjustments across petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

According to the latest pricing schedule, petrol now sells at GH₵14.32 per litre, representing a 16.93 percent rise. Diesel has climbed to GH₵16.10 per litre, marking a 17.21 percent increase, while LPG has gone up by 11.26 percent per kilogram.

Officials attribute the hikes to a sustained surge in global oil prices, which continue to exert pressure on Ghana’s domestic market. This marks the fourth price adjustment since January 2026, but industry analysts note that today’s increment is the steepest so far.

The development is expected to ripple across the economy, raising transportation costs, affecting household budgets, and intensifying calls for government intervention to cushion consumers.

Transport operators and business owners have already expressed concern over the impact of the new rates, warning of possible fare increases and higher commodity prices. On social media, the announcement has sparked widespread debate, with many Ghanaians questioning the sustainability of frequent adjustments.

With global oil prices showing no signs of stabilizing, experts caution that further hikes may be inevitable unless Ghana strengthens its energy diversification strategies and explores alternative supply measures.
