The Ghana Navy has foiled a major fuel smuggling operation off the coast of Aflao, intercepting seven canoes and 400 barrels believed to be used in illegal bunkering activities.

Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Base, described the seized vessels as “purpose-built for criminality”, underscoring the scale and sophistication of the syndicate.
Investigations are underway to uncover the masterminds and networks behind the operation. The Navy has pledged to intensify patrols along Ghana’s maritime borders to combat smuggling, which poses both economic risks and environmental hazards.
