Cape Coast to Experience Scheduled Power Interruption for Transformer Upgrade

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in partnership with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), has announced a planned power outage in Cape Coast on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The five-hour interruption, scheduled from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, is to facilitate the final installation and commissioning of a newly enhanced 66-megavolt-ampere (66MVA) transformer at the Cape Coast Substation.

According to a joint statement released on Friday, the upgrade is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving the efficiency, reliability, and overall capacity of the electricity distribution network in Cape Coast and nearby areas. The two utility providers assured the public that all logistical and technical arrangements have been made to ensure the work is completed within the designated timeframe.

They expressed regret for any inconvenience the temporary outage may cause and emphasized that the upgrade will significantly improve power supply quality in the long run. Residents and business owners are encouraged to make the necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the scheduled maintenance.
