Poverty Rate in Ghana Falls to 21.9%, Thousands Exit Multidimensional Poverty

The Ghana Statistical Service has announced a significant decline in the country’s poverty rate, which now stands at 21.9%. According to the latest figures, more than 360,000 Ghanaians exited multidimensional poverty during the third quarter of 2025, marking a notable improvement in living standards and access to essential services. The report highlights progress in areas such as education, healthcare, and housing, which contributed to the reduction.

Despite these gains, the data reveals that rural communities remain disproportionately affected. Many households outside urban centers continue to struggle with limited access to infrastructure, employment opportunities, and social services. The disparity underscores the need for targeted interventions to ensure that rural populations benefit equally from national development programs.

Experts suggest that the decline in poverty reflects ongoing government and private sector initiatives aimed at boosting economic resilience and social welfare. However, they caution that sustained investment in rural development, job creation, and inclusive policies will be critical to maintaining this momentum. The Ghana Statistical Service emphasized that while the figures are encouraging, more work is required to close the gap between urban and rural livelihoods.
