Government Unveils Comprehensive Child Welfare Plan to Safeguard Wellbeing Nationwide

Accra, Ghana — January 30, 2026 The Government of Ghana has outlined a new and comprehensive Child Welfare Plan aimed at strengthening the protection, development, and wellbeing of children across the country.

Announcing the initiative, officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection emphasized that the plan is designed to address pressing challenges facing children, including access to healthcare, education, nutrition, and protection from abuse and exploitation.

The Child Welfare Plan introduces a series of measures, including:

• Enhanced Child Protection Systems: Strengthening community-based structures to identify and respond to cases of child abuse, neglect, and trafficking.
• Improved Access to Education: Expanding school enrollment programs and ensuring vulnerable children, especially in rural areas, benefit from free and compulsory basic education.
• Healthcare and Nutrition Support: Rolling out nationwide campaigns to improve child immunization rates, combat malnutrition, and provide affordable healthcare services.
• Social Support Services: Offering targeted assistance to families in need, including cash transfers and livelihood programs, to reduce poverty-related risks for children.

Officials noted that the plan aligns with Ghana’s commitment to international conventions on child rights and is part of broader efforts to build a safer, more inclusive society. The government has pledged to work closely with civil society organizations, faith-based groups, and international partners to ensure effective implementation.
