Tema, March 16, 2026 — Tragedy struck in Tema Community One today when a helicopter crashed at Oninku Drive School Park, killing all three crew members onboard.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by thick smoke as the aircraft went down near the central business district. The crash occurred within the premises of Oninku Drive School Park, sparking panic among residents and students in the area.
The Ghana National Fire Service swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames, while the Ghana Police Service cordoned off the area to secure the crash site. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of the crew members, confirming that no students or civilians were harmed despite the proximity to the school.
Local leaders, including the Assemblyman for Kwesi Plange Electoral Area, reassured the public that all students were safe. Residents expressed shock at the incident, noting the rarity of such aviation accidents in the community.
